How this helps

Slow, steady breathing can help you settle before yoga or meditation. This breath coach walks you through common timing patterns used in yoga and stress-management practice: box breathing (equal counts in, hold, out, hold), the 4-7-8 pattern popularized by Dr. Andrew Weil, and coherent breathing near five to six breaths per minute.

Choose a pattern, press play or tap the space bar when focus is on the page background, and follow the on-screen cues. In full-motion view the rosette expands and contracts; when reduced motion is on, the same phases appear as text and a progress bar so the guide stays readable without animation.

Set a round target or a session timer when you want structure. Set rounds to zero if you only want a time limit. Each completed cycle is counted locally in your browser only — nothing is saved, shared, or sent to analytics.

Structured slow-breathing and brief respiration practices have been studied for mood and arousal in controlled settings (Balban et al., 2023). Reviews of slow breathing and heart-rate variability biofeedback summarize evidence that paced breathing can support calm and autonomic balance (Zaccaro et al., 2018; Lehrer et al., 2020).

Pair a short coach session with gentle poses such as mountain or child's pose when you are new to breath-led practice. If you are in the Atlanta area, explore local classes on the city map once it is live.

If any pattern feels uncomfortable, return to your normal breathing and try a shorter count. These tools are educational companions, not substitutes for care from a qualified teacher, clinician, or health professional.

When you sit down to practice, soften your jaw and let the belly move freely. If you use the custom pattern, keep counts small at first and add hold time only when inhale and exhale already feel smooth. Teachers often suggest practicing seated on a chair or cushion so the spine stays long without strain. A short session before yoga class can help you arrive present; afterward, a minute of slow breathing may ease the transition back to your day. Radiant Flow Yoga and other Atlanta studios welcome beginners, and this coach is one way to preview the rhythm you might hear in a guided class.
