Animated Child's Pose
Scroll to move from a neutral stand into Child's Pose. With reduced motion, the final shape stays still.
Alignment cues
- Kneel and sit the hips toward the heels
- Walk the hands forward and lower the forehead toward the floor
- Let the shoulders soften away from the ears
- Breathe into the back of the ribs
- Widen the knees if the hips feel pinched
Variants
- Supported forehead. Rest the forehead on stacked fists or a block if the floor feels far away
- Wide-knee rest. Open the knees toward the edges of the mat while keeping the big toes touching
Child’s pose (balasana)
Child’s pose is the reset button. It slows your pace, lets the back round naturally, and gives you a place to recover whenever a class or home practice feels demanding.
Why it helps
The NCCIH yoga overview notes possible wellness benefits including stress management (Yoga: Effectiveness and Safety (NCCIH)). Slow breathing practices can be part of everyday stress management (Relaxation techniques for stress (MedlinePlus)).
When to use caution
Check with a clinician if you have knee or hip injuries or lumbar spine disease before deep knee flexion (Yoga: Effectiveness and Safety (NCCIH)). Talk with your health care provider about how to adjust physical activity during pregnancy. Never push the hips onto painful knees; widen the stance or sit on a bolster.
Practice with the atlas
Let the scroll figure settle you into the shape, then stay for six slow breaths. Follow with paced breathing on the home page when you need a structured cooldown after travel or desk work.
